Fly Control

It’s no secret that flies lay their eggs on anything that has been left out for long periods of time. Depending on the type of fly, eggs will be deposited in over-ripened fruit, drains, feces corpses, or other decaying organic matter, etc. Keep your space clean and sealed and you’ll see a lot less of them.

FRUIT FLIES

The most common cause of fruit flies is letting your fruit ripen too far. Whether it be on the tree, on the ground below the tree, or on your counter, fruit flies are named so for a reason. You may also bring home over-ripened fruit that already has fruit flies. If you see them flying around your produce of choice, consider choosing another that visit. Make sure to wash produce thoroughly and dispose of old or spoiled food. Trap the remainder with an open cup of vinegar.

DRAIN FLIES

Drain flies are attracted to decaying organic matter, particularly that which builds up in your drains. The more hair and other buildups, the more bacteria in the drain, and the more attractive to the drain fly. Getting rid of these yourself can be tricky, but you can start by snaking the drain and using an enzyme cleaner such as BioDrain. You can monitor their activity with an oil-lined disposable cup placed upside down over the drains. You may still require a drain treatment.
